How Car Insurance Works

Our car dealers at O’Brien Mitsubishi of Normal are happy to serve the Bloomington area of Illinois with the best customer service around. We have a large inventory of used and new Mitsubishi cars, like the pre-owned Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander.

Whether you’re new to car ownership or are just seeking an upgrade, remember that there will be additional costs involved for your car insurance. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is Auto Insurance and Why Do You Need It?

Car insurance isn’t an option—it’s a legal requirement for your vehicle. That’s because every driver needs a safety net in the event of an accident, whether with another vehicle or if say, a tree falls on your car. The costs to repair damage is high, so insurance eases the blow.

You also need auto insurance for your Mitsubishi Lancer in case an accident is your fault, in which case you’d be required to pay costs of the other driver’s car repairs or sometimes even their medical bills. So, as you can see, car insurance is a very important aspect of owning a vehicle. Our Bloomington Mitsubishi dealers can tell you more about why it’s important.

Insurance Coverage Options

Now, all that being said, there are different levels of coverage you can choose from, depending on your price point and priorities. Here are some of the basic coverages you’ll need.

Liability. This protection is in place in the event that you cause an accident and must pay for the other driver’s related car repair or medical expenses. You would be deemed “liable” for their costs if you are at fault.

Comprehensive. Comprehensive insurance pays for the repair or replacement of a car that is damaged from an accident that doesn’t have to do with another car. So, as mentioned above, if a tree falls on your car by accident, this coverage kicks in.

Collision. This insurance covers you if you have an accident with another car or object, like a lamppost. It doesn’t cover the other driver, however.

Medical expense payments. This is an optional coverage that covers your medical expenses, or those of people who were in the car with you, in the event of an accident.
